Application Explorer

Application Explorer provides a comprehensive interface for managing application menus. It enables the addition, editing, deletion, pinning, and assignment of applications and profiles within a unified environment.

The Application Explorer is used to publish successfully compiled and released projects as ready-to-use applications. In order for a project to be accessible by end users, it must first be added to the Applications menu through the Application Explorer screen. The corresponding form can be opened, a new process started, or report screens accessed when an application link is selected from the menu. Access to the Application Explorer is provided via the Settings menu of the web interface for users with appropriate permissions.

The menus within the Application Manager are maintained on a profile basis to allow configuration in accordance with the functionality of the modules and projects within the Synergy CSP system and the organizational structure that utilizes the system.

Application Explorer Functionalities

1. Creating a New Menu

When the + button is clicked in the Application Explorer panel, a modal window is opened with three main tabs:

Basic Information

This tab is used to enter details such as the title, opening type, panel size, and symbol appearance required to create the menu.

Application Explorer - Basic Information Tab

  • Title: The name that will be displayed in the Applications menu is entered. Multilingual input is supported; additional languages can be provided by clicking the language icon.
  • Panel Size: A preset option (1, 2, or 3) is selected. Option 1 occupies minimal screen space, while option 3 opens the form in full screen.
  • Symbol Color: The color of the icon that will appear next to the application name is set.
  • Node Operation Type: The type of operation for the application node is selected from options such as:
    • None: Used to group similar processes under a single heading.
    • Start a Flow: A list of published projects is displayed, allowing the selection of a flow to initiate a new process.
    • Fill a Form: A specific form from a published project is opened for data entry.
    • Other operation types (e.g., Document Management, Workflow Management, Human Resources, External Link) are available.

Advanced Parameters

This tab is employed to send parameter values to the process flow or form. For example, if the same process is linked to two different nodes, different values can be assigned (e.g., X=1 for one node and X=2 for the other), which will be read by the process flow to determine the appropriate route.

Profiles

This tab is used to associate the menu with one or more profiles, thereby facilitating more effective menu management.

2. Editing an Existing Menu

Existing menu items may be updated by authorized users. The search field is used to locate an existing application menu, and the three-dot button is selected to open the modal window for modifying the application node's properties. All details and associations configured during menu creation, such as the title, panel size, and symbol color, can be changed.

3. Pinning / Unpinning Menu

To ensure that a menu appears when the application is opened, the Pin option is selected. If the menu is to be returned to its normal state, the Unpin option is used.

4. Deleting a Menu and Removing from Profile Options

A menu node can be entirely deleted or removed from a specific profile. The search function is used to locate the menu, after which the three-dot button is clicked and either Delete or Remove from Profile is chosen.

  • Deletion results in the removal of the menu node system-wide, while removal from a profile deletes only the relationship with the selected profile.

5. Profile Creation and Editing

A new profile may be added by clicking the Add button in the Profile section. A modal form is provided to either copy an existing profile or to create a new one by entering the necessary details. Once added, the new profile is displayed in the profile list, and it can later be edited to update the profile's name, ID, or associated menu items.

7. Profile Authorization

The authorization of the created menu profiles is managed through the authorization groups configured in the Security module. In order for an application node to be visible in the Applications menu, access must be granted to the corresponding profile.

  • This is managed from the Security menu located under the Administrative Tools section.
  • User groups are defined and assigned to one or more profiles, and the final access rights for a user are determined based on the cumulative permissions of all assigned profiles.
  • Options such as Apply to Subnodes can be enabled so that inherited visibility settings are maintained.

8. Node-Specific Options via the Three-Dot Menu

Application Explorer - Context Menu

The following options are available for each application node:

  • Pin to Start: Ensures that key application nodes are always visible upon application startup.
  • Edit: Opens the modal form for updating node properties.
  • Delete: Permanently removes the application node from the system.
  • Remove from Profile: Deletes the node's association with a particular profile without removing it from other profiles.
  • Profile-Based Configuration: Application nodes are organized and managed on a per-profile basis, allowing tailored layouts and access rights to be established for different departments or user groups.
  • Multilingual Support: The system supports multilingual input for application titles, ensuring that the names displayed in the Applications menu dynamically adjust to the user's language settings.
  • Advanced Parameter Integration: The Advanced Parameters tab enables dynamic process routing by allowing different parameter values to be assigned to similar application nodes, which can dictate different process flows.
  • Granular Access Control: Profile authorization is managed via the Security module; access to application nodes is determined by the cumulative permissions set across all associated profiles.
  • External Link Configuration: Application nodes can link to external websites, with configuration options available to control whether the link opens in a new browser tab or within an on-screen panel.
  • Contextual Node Operations: A dedicated context menu is available for each application node, providing quick options for pinning, editing, deleting, or removing nodes from specific profiles without affecting system-wide visibility.
  • Search and Discovery: A robust search functionality is implemented to efficiently filter and locate application nodes, ensuring ease of navigation within the Application Explorer.
